NYT Built an AI Agent to Search 3 Million Pages of Epstein Files
dylfreed · x · 2026-10-02
New York Times editor @dylfreed described how the newsroom turned the latest batch of 3 million pages of Epstein Files — enough to stack as high as the Empire State Building — into a searchable AI agent.
Reporters can ask a question; the agent runs SQL in the backend, searches all documents, interprets them, and returns page-level citations. The "Epstein Files engine" enabled the NYT to produce more than a dozen stories.
