70% of Baidu's mobile search pages have AI content as China closes the commerce loop

The author argues the China-vs-West AI debate focuses too much on model quality while the bigger difference lies in the surrounding systems: China is wiring assistants directly into search, commerce, payments and local services.
Baidu says 70% of its mobile search result pages contained AI-generated content by October 2025; Alibaba has connected Qwen with Taobao, Alipay, Fliggy and Amap, creating an in-ecosystem path from question to transaction.
This shifts the assistant's role from "AI → recommendation → website → checkout" to "AI → research → compare → choose → transact." The long-term edge may belong to whoever controls the strongest combination of information, identity, distribution and execution—not whoever has the best standalone model.
