Stanford's Omer Reingold: mathematicians must stop mourning and face the LLM era
IAmSamFin · x · 2026-10-02
Theoretical computer scientist Omer Reingold writes on Stanford's Theory Dish that even Millennium Prize Problems and beloved FOCS/STOC open problems are no longer beyond LLMs. He argues the math community has moved past denial into anger, bargaining, and depression — and urges senior mathematicians to snap out of it, warning that bargaining (hoping labs pause or publication tweaks preserve the status quo) is the most harmful response.
