stillwet: AI paints brushstroke-by-brushstroke in a simulated oil studio, channeling Friedrich
ctjlewis · x · 2026-10-02
Alice's stillwet project lets AI models paint in a simulated oil studio: models write every brushstroke, executed by a simulation of bristles, wet paint and linen. Most works after Caspar David Friedrich — from written research only, never seeing his paintings. Highlights: blind-ranked above the AI painters' own work, two painters six hours apart independently producing near-identical Baltic shore scenes, duplicate titles, and one piece with no Friedrich motifs due to a prompting quirk.
