Claude bug: new models answer only in thinking, output never reaches users
Remarkable_Rock5845 · reddit · 2026-10-02
A Reddit user reports a serious bug in newer Claude models: replies are written only into the thinking process and never displayed, while the model acts as if it had answered. It happens when the reply precedes a tool call in the same turn. Multiple Claude Code GitHub issues (#96288, #97504, #94354) track it. A hook workaround to force on-screen output gets flagged as "reasoningextraction", leaving users to choose between new models with silent-answer risk or sticking to older ones.
