South Korea moves to regulate AI companion chatbots for minors
lmoroney · x · 2026-10-02
South Korean lawmaker Lee Joo-hee plans an amendment on interactive AI for minors: age and identity checks, heavy-use warnings, usage-time tracking, and limits that minors or guardians can request. Companion-style bots are the core concern, with Scatter Lab's Zeta platform facing an October 12 audit hearing.
For educators, the practical lever is teaching students how these tools work and giving parents and schools clear controls when immersion turns into dependence.
