OpenDots: open-source event-driven AI agent that pursues persistent goals locally
Desperate-Ad-9679 · reddit · 2026-10-02
A developer released OpenDots, an MIT-licensed, locally-runnable event-driven AI agent positioned as an open alternative to OpenAI Dots.
- Core idea: give it a persistent goal, connect an event source (e.g. GitHub), and the agent evaluates each incoming event against the goal, proposes work, and asks for approval before executing
- Demo shows the full loop: GitHub issue → agent proposes a change → creator approves → inspect patch and results
- Works with Claude Code, Codex CLI, model APIs, or local Ollama models; currently runs on Linux
- Includes persistent goals, run history, and retained patches for reviewability
