Fixing Krea2's blotchy noise: an algorithmic mid-frequency removal workflow with exact settings
terrariyum · reddit · 2026-10-02
A Redditor shared an algorithmic, automatable workflow to remove the blotchy mid-frequency noise typical of Krea2 image output.
How it works: it only strips mid-frequency noise, which in Krea2 output is essentially useless random blotches and can be discarded wholesale. It can't be done directly in ComfyUI yet, so it requires an editor like free GIMP or Affinity Photo.
Steps (Affinity Photo, with copyable settings):
- High/low frequency separation: Gaussian mode, radius 0.8px (tune to the max value where blotches remain visible in the low-frequency layer)
- Second split of the low frequency: Bilateral mode, radius 11px + tolerance 35px as reliable automation defaults
- Delete the mid-frequency layer (the blotches); reduce radius if the image looks hazy; optionally preserve mid-frequency around eyes, lips, hands
- Optional film grain: new layer, Linear Light blend, exactly 50% gray fill, Add Noise — Linear Light guarantees brightness stays unchanged at any intensity
- Export
