Judge dismisses Chegg and Penske antitrust suits over Google AI search
Ars Technica AI · rss · 2026-10-02
US District Judge Amit Mehta has dismissed antitrust lawsuits filed by Chegg and Penske Media (Rolling Stone, Variety) against Google over AI Overviews and traffic loss. Filed in 2025, the suits argued Google illegally scraped content to feed Gemini answers with no opt-out. The judge ruled an "expectation" of search traffic is not an agreement and Google's conduct isn't unlawful — a setback for publishers worried about AI search.
