Pydantic hiring senior Rust engineer for Monty, its sub-ms AI agent sandbox
samuelcolvin · x · 2026-10-02
Pydantic founder Samuel Colvin is hiring a senior Rust engineer to work with him on Pydantic Monty.
What Monty is:
- A Python interpreter written from scratch in Rust, sandboxed with no filesystem, environment, or network
- Starts in under a millisecond, can be paused, dumped to bytes, and resumed — designed for AI agents that write code instead of making one tool call at a time
- Open-source Monty hit 1.0 in September; the commercial Full Monty serves the same sandbox over WebSocket as a container image
The role: 60% open source (CPython compatibility, systematic security testing, interpreter performance and potentially a JIT), rest on production reliability, the wire protocol, and Python/TypeScript/WebAssembly bindings.
