Judge tosses Chegg and Penske antitrust suits against Google AI Overviews

Federal Judge Amit Mehta dismissed antitrust claims from Chegg and Penske Media (owner of Rolling Stone and Variety) over Google's AI Overviews.
- Publishers argued search runs on an unwritten trade: Google crawls their pages in exchange for referral clicks that AI Overviews now keep.
- The court found no enforceable agreement, writing that an expectation of traffic "is not an agreement," just the normal working of a search engine.
- Publishers also lacked standing on Google's search monopoly, since their lost subscriptions and licensing fees fall in other markets.
