Three.js Procedural Animals Generates 24 Species Entirely in Code
majidmanzarpour · x · 2026-10-02
Developer Majid Manzarpour released three.js Procedural Animals, an open-source project that generates 24 animal species entirely from code at runtime — no models, no textures, no hand-made rigs.
- Each animal's body is sculpted from signed distance fields (SDFs), then meshed, rigged, skinned and furred inside Web Workers before being uploaded to the GPU.
- Skeletons, skinning and coats are all generated at runtime, and animation is driven by inverse kinematics (IK).
- A live demo offers Orbit/Follow/Director cameras and reports gait, speed, altitude, FPS, CPU ms per animal, draw calls, triangles and vertices.
- Autopilot roaming is supported, plus WASD movement, Shift to run, Space/C to climb, and click-to-navigate on the ground.
- The project is open source and agent ready; the author says it was built with help from Opus 5.5.
