Procedural three.js animals: 24 species from SDFs, no models or textures
majidmanzarpour · x · 2026-10-02
Developer majidmanzarpour open-sourced threejs-procedural-animals, a library built so coding agents can drop fully procedural animals into games.
- 24 species across 6 body plans (paws, hooves, birds, swimmers, snakes, spiders), generated entirely in code—no models, no textures, no animation clips.
- Runtime pipeline: sculpted from signed distance fields, meshed, auto-rigged and skinned (dual-quaternion), covered in fur/feathers/scales, animated with IK gaits and actions.
- Seeded individuals with repeatable size, proportions, and coats; five quality tiers from hero (120k vertices) to crowd (6k vertices, one draw call); builds run off the main thread.
- Includes a live demo; createAnimal('wolf') adds a steerable animal to your scene.
