What should you log when an LLM run goes wrong - version IDs, redacted prompts or full payloads?
Greedy-Badger-8463 · reddit · 2026-10-02
A practical question every LLM team faces: "same model as yesterday" explains little when the prompt, tool descriptions or templates changed.
The trade-off:
- Full request traces are great for debugging but accumulate user data with privacy/compliance burden
- Middle grounds: version IDs, redacted prompts, full payloads kept only briefly
The thread crowdsources where teams draw the line - useful for anyone building LLM observability.
