OpenAI, Grok, Anthropic race to lock in agent platforms — but models stay swappable
sethlazar · x · 2026-10-02
MLStreetTalk argues the new agent platforms from OpenAI, Grok and Anthropic are desperately replicating the cloud-era SaaS/PaaS lock-in playbook, knowing technical users only care about better, cheaper models — OpenAI felt this when users easily switched to Opus 5.5. Two wrenches: the same tech makes roll-your-own trivially easy (a few AWS CLI commands), and enterprise utility demands high configurability (autoscale, HA, dedicated hardware, custom envs), following the cloud compute trajectory.
