Eric Topol: evidence from 105,000-woman MASAI trial says all mammograms should include three AI algorithms
EricTopol · x · 2026-10-02
Eric Topol argues, based on a strong evidence base, that all mammograms should include three free-to-patient AI algorithms:
- Better detection: The Swedish MASAI randomized trial (>105,000 women) showed one radiologist plus AI support (Transpara) matched two radiologists; the NCI estimates 20% of breast cancers are missed by standard mammograms.
- 5-year cancer risk prediction: flagging future risk even when a mammogram looks "normal," enabling prevention.
- Heart disease risk assessment from the same images.
He also reviews implementation obstacles.
