Google's Project Suncatcher launches first AI processors to orbit aboard a SpaceX rocket
scientificamerican · reddit · 2026-10-02
Google's Project Suncatcher is scheduled to launch hardware today on a SpaceX rocket, sending AI processors into orbit to test space-based computing. The test satellite carries just four processors that will run Gemini models in 15-minute stretches before shutting down to cool. The end goal is an orbital data center built from constellations of thousands of satellites, as tech giants race to source AI's energy needs from space.
