Signatures Carry Richer Data but Metadata Is Easily Stripped: Provenance Trade-offs

A follow-up reply in the same provenance thread breaks down the trade-offs: signatures can store richer information, but metadata is easily removed accidentally — a single webpage or tool not supporting the metadata standard wipes it out; databases require central coordination, while watermarks and signatures do not. Combined with the earlier reply: DeepMind's position is that watermarking, signatures and databases are complementary, as with SynthID — watermarks are hardest to remove accidentally but hold the least information.
