DeepMind Researcher: AI Provenance Needs Watermarks, Signatures and Databases Together
davidstutz92 · x · 2026-10-01
A DeepMind researcher weighs in on AI-content provenance, arguing that watermarking, signatures and databases are complementary technologies — as with SynthID — rather than alternatives. Watermarks resist accidental removal but carry limited information; signatures store richer data but metadata is easily stripped by any tool that ignores the standard; databases require central coordination, which the other two do not.
