76% of NYT Philosophy Professor's AI Op-Ed Detected as AI-Written
paulnovosad · x · 2026-10-01
A New York Times guest essay by philosophy professor Simon Critchley, "The Id, the Ego and the Superintelligence," was detected as roughly 76% AI-written, a finding replicated independently with the Pangram detector. The irony: an essay arguing that AI is good at retrieval and recombination but lacks philosophical "judgment" was itself mostly machine-generated. The essay also notes AI companies now hire philosophers full-time because real thinking requires knowing when to forget.
