OpenBot launches open-source AI teammates for Mac running local models via Ollama
Robert-Prisacariu · reddit · 2026-10-01
Developer Robert Prisacariu released the first public beta of OpenBot, an MIT-licensed system of AI "teammates" that runs on your Mac with local models as a first-class option.
- Each teammate has a name, job, its own workspace and browser; they can run tasks in sequence, waiting on each other's output.
- Any teammate can point at a different Ollama model, an OpenAI-compatible API, a free Gemini key, or existing ChatGPT/Claude/Grok/Copilot subscriptions — and you can mix local and hosted models per task.
- Safety design: reading and searching run autonomously, but sending, buying, signing in, or submitting always pauses and shows the exact website and button first.
- Extras: Word/Excel outputs, scheduled routines, Telegram/Discord/iMessage integration, and a "Hey Siri, Ask OpenBot" hook. The install script is readable and SHA-256 checked.
- Limitations: beta, ad-hoc signed (not notarized), macOS 13+ only. The author is soliciting which local models are most reliable for tool use and browsing.
