ChatGPT's new Pages feature silently spawns Work tasks, eating 13% of a 5-hour quota
kerrie_saus · reddit · 2026-10-01
A user found that ChatGPT's new Pages feature silently launches metered Work tasks:
- Two tiny /chatgpt requests inside an example page (a style tweak and a plugin question) showed only a "ChatGPT is thinking" indicator, with no warning about Work mode.
- Both were converted behind the scenes into Work mode chats on GPT-5.6 Sol High, appearing as new chats in the sidebar.
- The user's 5-hour allowance dropped from 100% to 87% — about 13% of the Work/Codex quota consumed despite never using Work mode.
- The core complaint is lack of disclosure; ChatGPT itself admitted OpenAI's public Pages documentation is "surprisingly incomplete" on this point.
