No two-stage pretraining: SynthID Bio-structure reuses AF3 fine-tuning for watermarks
davidstutz92 · x · 2026-10-01
Part 2 of David Stutz's technical thread explains why their approach is simpler:
- SynthID Bio-structure avoids two-stage training entirely, requiring no encoder-decoder pre-training
- It reuses one of AlphaFold 3's fine-tuning stages to embed the watermark
- Compared with FoldMark: both need fine-tuning, but this method drops the pre-training stage, keeping the pipeline simpler overall
- Reconfirmed: targeting open-weight AF3, no multi-bit watermarking is offered
Same technical discussion as the earlier post, adding method-comparison details vs FoldMark.
