Cloudflare opens up Quicksilver: Workers KV Instant delivers 100x faster p99 reads
threepointone · x · 2026-10-01
Cloudflare launched Workers KV Instant during Birthday Week, exposing its internal key-value store Quicksilver to customers for the first time.
- Quicksilver has powered key lookups for nearly every Cloudflare request since 2020 but was never publicly available
- KV Instant is API-compatible with Workers KV: p99 reads under 2ms — over 100x faster than classic mode — with p95 in microseconds
- Writes replicate to the edge 20x faster, with 99% landing in 250ms; updates are instantly live with no TTL wait
- Best suited for infrequently updated, frequently read application configuration data, mirroring Cloudflare's own usage
