OpenAI to spend hundreds of millions post-training GPT Synopsys, crushing the AI-disrupts-EDA thesis
firstadopter · x · 2026-10-01
Synopsys CEO Sassine Ghazi says the OpenAI deal only works because OpenAI is spending hundreds of millions of dollars post-training a GPT Synopsys, while Synopsys keeps its IP out of any base model — a non-starter requirement.
firstadopter's take:
- OpenAI extracts big equity concessions from weaker partners (e.g. Cerebras), but couldn't do so with Synopsys, showing who holds leverage.
- The deal blows up the bear thesis that frontier AI will disrupt EDA: SNPS surged yesterday and is the top pre-market gainer.
- He mocks the Citrini software panic drawdown earlier this year as flat wrong.
