Reddit user claims Opus 5.5 was nerfed within days, cites EU law for refunds

A heavy user reports Opus 5.5 was flawless for its first 5-6 days on complex work (custom C++ 3D engines, soft-body physics, Blender MCP) before output style abruptly changed — an anomalous "Written for: you..." reply marked the shift, and quality never recovered. He claims a similar overnight style collapse in another model.

His detection method: on launch day, save a test suite with exact prompts, periodically re-run them to compare quality, and log response times on a graph, since slowdowns under load often signal quantization or "optimizations."

He also lays out EU consumer law grounds for refunds: the Digital Content Directive (2019/770) Arts. 7-8 require paid subscriptions to match advertised "quality and performance a consumer can reasonably expect" (launch benchmarks, "our most capable model" claims); Art. 19 requires clear advance notice of mid-subscription changes, with a 30-day withdrawal right. He notes similar behavior in Codex and solicits others' post-launch experiences.
