A widely shared Bain & Company estimate says AI companies must find at least $4.2 trillion a year in new revenue by 2031 to pay for their data center buildout. The figure, amplified by investor Steve Rattner and Meta's Yann LeCun, highlights the enormous gap between planned compute spending and actual AI industry revenue.
