37signals' Jason Fried built his decade-old writing tool idea Write_On in a weekend with Claude

Jason Fried, co-founder of 37signals, has shipped WriteOn, a personal writing tool he'd wanted to build for roughly a decade. It offers "alternative control" at the word, sentence, and paragraph level, plus ways to dim existing text and stash fragments nearby — not version control, but in-flow exploration of phrasing.
He says it never made sense as a 37signals product: not commercially viable, not worth pulling engineers off other work, and months of effort the old way. With Claude's help, he built it himself over a single weekend and posted a walkthrough video.
