A debate over what LLMs fundamentally are: after someone labeled an LLM a "database," DarioColaianni pushed back, arguing a database stores records while an LLM transforms learned representations and can derive outputs that were never stored anywhere. In his view, renaming it a database answers consciousness no more than calling a brain "wet electrochemistry" — "you didn't solve the hard problem, you hid from it in a filing cabinet."
