Google tests AI Overviews with zero citations for "best" queries

SEO practitioner Gagan Ghotra noticed that over the past three days, Google has been testing showing no citation links at all in AI Overviews for "best"-type queries, especially in local results, while most queries still show citations. It appears to be a small-scale test.
- If rolled out, this could curb the flood of "best listicle" pages spamming their way into AI Overviews citations
- Open question: if Google stops picking from those pages, how will it decide who gets surfaced in these answers?
