Claude writes a two-pass ffmpeg loudnorm pipeline to level up video audio
Aizkmusic · x · 2026-10-01
A user had Claude generate a complete ffmpeg command to compress and boost the audio of a video. It's a classic two-pass loudnorm workflow:
- Pass 1 runs -af "acompressor + loudnorm=I=-14:TP=-1.5:LRA=11:printformat=" into -f null just to measure the input's loudness stats;
- sed extracts the JSON output and jq pulls inputi / inputtp / inputlra / inputthresh / targetoffset;
- Pass 2 feeds those back as measured with linear=true for linear normalization, while -c:v copy skips video re-encoding; audio is re-encoded to 256k AAC at 48kHz.
This avoids the dynamic-mode quality loss of single-pass loudnorm — the standard approach for audio loudness processing.
