Google's Gemini 4 Argon matches GPT-6 Astra but trails Claude Opus 5.5, burns 2x tokens
The Decoder · rss · 2026-10-01
The Decoder reports Google has shipped Gemini 4 Argon, its first frontier model in over seven months. Independent testing shows it matches OpenAI's GPT-6 Astra but can't keep up with Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5. Its per-token price is low, yet Argon burns through more than twice as many tokens per task as Astra. Select testers get access first, with API and paid tiers to follow.
