CrewAI founder: the stack is fragmenting, but buyers just want one number to call

CrewAI founder João Moura recounts losing a big-bank deal: the client liked the platform, but observability and memory required buying other products — five contracts, five security reviews, five vendors. That meeting ended an internal argument.
His thesis: every layer of the AI stack (data, models, orchestration, observability, connection, interface) has companies owning exactly one thing, while buyers pull in the opposite direction — nobody wants five vendors, they want one number to call. So when the market pulls apart and buyers pull together, you build the boring parts anyway: deployment, traces, PII, permissions, governance.
