Chris Paxton: robust whole-body RL handles impacts better than IK
chris_j_paxton · x · 2026-10-01
Responding to Xiaolonw, Chris Paxton argues the key advantage of RL over inverse kinematics in whole-body robot control is reactivity: dealing with varying object masses, sudden impacts, or a caught arm. Robust whole-body RL handles these edge cases far more gracefully than IK, which would require substantial engineering effort.
