The agent loop is what matters: why local LLMs keep you in control
ag789 · reddit · 2026-10-01
The author argues the agent loop is the core value of local LLMs. The OpenAI-style chat completions API is now the de facto standard (llama.cpp and Vercel AI Gateway both implement it), but commercial providers increasingly insert an agent layer between you and the model to monopolize the loop. With local LLMs, you own and write the agent loop yourself — which the author calls a day-and-night difference, practically two different universes.
