Anthropic released a claude-api cost-optimize skill that profiles token spend across any repo calling the API. Its core principle: optimize cost per completed task, not per token — a pricier model finishing in fewer turns can be cheaper than a failing cheap one. The workflow establishes a baseline, ranks levers by savings, applies free wins first (prompt caching, input hygiene, batch), then tradeoffs (effort, model choice), shipping one measured diff per lever validated against your evals.
