Starcloud to fly NVIDIA H100 aboard Firefly spacecraft to validate lunar-orbit data center
ycombinator · x · 2026-10-01
Starcloud signed an agreement with Firefly Aerospace to fly its SC-1L processor — including an NVIDIA H100 — aboard Firefly's Elytra spacecraft in lunar orbit. The SC-1L will ingest data from Firefly's onboard Solux vision system, run high-power AI compute on orbit, and rapidly downlink results to Earth. Building on Starcloud's recent low-Earth-orbit AI computing demo, the mission validates capabilities for a future orbital lunar data center, described as a strategic priority for both NASA and the US Space Force.
