Sonnet 5.5 cost 30x more than GPT 6.1 Sol on the same 3D generation task
Fun-Meaning-6474 · reddit · 2026-09-30
A Reddit user ran the identical prompt (an acrylic keyboard assembling itself key-by-key in Three.js) through GPT 6.1 Sol and Sonnet 5.5, both on ultracode:
- GPT 6.1 Sol: single agent, 11 minutes, 6.8M input tokens (6.6M cached), 68K output, $1.78 API-equivalent cost
- Sonnet 5.5: split into 19 agents, 78 minutes, 206.8M input tokens, 516K output, $57.34
Results look similar; the author slightly prefers Sonnet's colors and detail, but concludes the 30x price gap isn't justified — going with Sol and tweaking is still cheaper. Both were run via subscriptions (5x GPT / 20x Claude) on atomic.chat.
