ModRetro and OpenAI teamed up to use the Codex coding agent for game creation on the ModRetro Chromatic handheld, launching a collection page.
- The collection includes 14 Codex-generated Game Boy Color games playable in the browser or as downloadable ROMs.
- Developer Dimillian showcased Hollow Descent, a retro ARPG with real-time combat, loot, inventory and skills, built with Codex and their plugin.
- ModRetro also published guidance so anyone can build their own Chromatic games with Codex, turning AI-generated retro games into a playable, reproducible pipeline.
