A consultant tired of meeting-note apps built SKATE, a free MIT-licensed workshop memory tool, mostly with Claude Code: - Tags observations, pains, questions, decisions and quotes, then links them with relationships (caused/supports/contradicts) to answer "why did we decide this" weeks later; - Notes are plain Markdown files (Obsidian-style), no database, with local transcription of PC audio + mic — no meeting bot joins calls; - Ships an MCP server so Claude/ChatGPT can query the vault with bounded retrieval instead of dumping everything into context; - Hardware extras: a 3D-printed microphone puck (STL in repo) and a custom Stream Deck, button logos included; - Windows-only, single-user for now. Workflow insight: explaining ideas badly to Claude, breaking things, iterating; once the repo grew, pointing Claude Code at it to ask "what did I break" beat stuffing half the codebase into chat.
