Google pays ~100 publishers just 0.1% of ad revenue in AI contribution pilot

According to The Information, Google's "AI contribution" pilot is far smaller and stingier than expected:
- The pilot covers only about 100 publishers whose content is used in AI features like AI Overviews, AI Mode, and Gemini
- Small and midsize blogs and websites in the program are being paid less than one-tenth of 1% of their advertising revenue
- One publisher signed a $1 million deal but earned less than $1,000 over several months
- The report notes the program is unlikely to silence publisher complaints about compensation for AI use of their content
A sobering data point on how little AI content licensing is actually paying out.
