Tech Workers Hook ChatGPT Up to a Toyota Corolla and Get It Around a Cone Course

404 Media reports that three Bay Area tech workers (DrivingBench, who met at Axiom Math) wired general-purpose LLMs — GPT-6 Astra, Claude Fable 5.1, Grok 4.6 and GPT-5.6 Sol — running on a laptop into a Toyota Corolla's steering, accelerator and brakes, then had them navigate a cone course in a public parking lot. Grok, Sol and Fable managed only a few meters; GPT-6 Astra, after heavy troubleshooting, eventually completed the course. Code, prompts and videos are public. Unlike Waymo/Tesla systems trained on millions of driving hours, this tested whether off-the-shelf chatbots can drive a real car with zero training.
