A developer shares a hands-on cost fix for multi-agent setups: in his orchestrator-plus-workers architecture, every call re-injected the full project state, with 60%+ of orchestrator tokens spent re-reading context it already had, running $580/month. Workers had no visibility into each other's output, causing duplicated builds and re-delegated tasks.
The fix: a shared memory layer scoped per project that all agents read from and write to. The orchestrator now receives a ranked state summary instead of full history, and workers check existing output before building. Token spend dropped by half, duplicate work mostly stopped, and the bill fell to $260/month—net savings of $300/month after the $19/month memory layer cost.
His advice: if your multi-agent bill feels high, check how much of each call is just context re-injection.
