MIT builds AI-powered Raman 'barcode' to noninvasively detect senescent 'zombie cells'
MacrinePhD · x · 2026-09-30
MIT researchers have developed a noninvasive, AI-powered 'barcode' that combines Raman microscopy with single-cell gene expression data to identify senescent 'zombie cells' accumulating in aging tissue.
- Senescent cells stop dividing but don't die, driving inflammation, tissue degeneration, cancer, and other age-related diseases.
- The approach could help diagnose age-related disorders, track tissue health, and guide development of new anti-aging treatments.
