India's IT industry was built on cheap, English-speaking labor, and AI directly undercuts that bargain. Industry revenue grew 6.1% while headcount grew only 2.3% — a divergence Nasscom's own president flagged in February. TCS cut nearly 20,000 jobs, its largest ever. On the hopeful side, over a million new AI-related roles are opening, but only 16% of the current workforce is skilled enough for them.
