A Reddit writeup on Cloudflare's new MCP server approach: instead of mapping every API endpoint to its own MCP tool, it collapses to two pieces — a capability catalog for API discovery and a generic executor. Tool definitions dropped from 244K to 1.1K of context, and API changes no longer require rebuilding the server.
- Code Mode: for multi-call flows, the model writes a small program that runs in a sandbox, avoiding the call→model→decide→call loop.
- Execution layer: the author also looked at GMI AgentBox v2, where each workload gets its own microVM accessed via create/upload/exec/result/delete APIs.
- Concerns: discovery is the weak link — internal services often have similar endpoints with poor descriptions, so the model may pick a technically related but wrong one. The author wants to test catalog+executor against messy internal APIs before replacing a hand-picked MCP toolset.
