Developer @chiziaruhoma released Aster, an open-source coding agent built for full self-hosting: your key, your model, your machine — no telemetry, no hosted control plane, one-line curl install.
Key points:
- Any OpenAI-compatible endpoint: 38 models in the picker, or point it at a local Ollama/vLLM instance
- A harness, not a prompt: chat, review, and fix share the same tools, permissions, history, memory, and retrieval in a single binary
- Five permission modes, configurable via YAML allow/ask/deny rules (e.g. allow cargo test, deny npm publish)
- Built-in review: every change gets hypothesize/verify passes across models — the demo's retry-logic fix took 22.4s and $0.031
