Microsoft has made WSL Containers generally available, positioning Windows as a first-class platform for Linux workloads.
- Run wsl --update or grab the latest GitHub release to get access
- Ships a new wslc.exe CLI (aliased as container.exe) to build, run, and deploy Linux containers directly on Windows
- Includes a WSL Containers API for programmatically running Linux containers inside native Windows apps, enabling scenarios like local AI workloads
Announced by Logan Iyer, CVP of Windows Platform + Developer, citing the convergence of AI, cloud-native development, containers, and open-source on Linux.
