Academia Splits on AI: One-Third Builders, One-Third Luddites, Field 'Will Eat Itself'

A researcher observes that most academic fields split roughly into thirds on AI/ML adoption: about one-third technical people, one-third luddites, and one-third in between. Surprisingly, even math and CS aren't uniformly technical—many in these fields are essentially qualitative historians.
The author knows people across the whole spectrum, from those building a "machine god" to those banning any ML tooling in class and hurting their own students. His conclusion: academia will eat itself long before AI disruption reaches other disciplines.
