Why personal AI agents stall in China: payments, platforms and liability

Blogger @shaomeng rumors that ByteDance's Doubao team has been sprinting since mid-Autumn and may launch a personal agent product ('Doubao Personal') after National Day, spurred by Muse's popularity and Manus Cue. But he argues China is ill-suited for personal agents—there's little to connect to. Reposter @sujingshen agrees the bottleneck is connectivity, not scenarios: safe entry points for payments, mobility and local services are gated by compliance, platform interests and liability. Without them agents can only chat; forcing connections risks making commitments on users' behalf, which is why products drift back to email and slides.
